Epigraph:

بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِذَا قَضَىٰ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ

He is the Originator of the heavens and the earth, and when He decrees something, He says only, ‘Be,’ and it is. (Al Quran 2:117)

Have they been created from nothing, or are they their own creators? Have they created the heavens and the earth? In truth they put no faith in anything. (Al Quran 52:35-36)

Commentary written and collected by Zia H Shah MD, Chief Editor of the Muslim Times

I never propose God of the gaps, meaning I am not trying to find God in areas that science may eventually answer. I am suggesting that this universe and laws of physics are contingent so they need an explanation. The only entities that can explain contingent things, beings or realities are those that are necessary, like a necessary God, who is eternal and self existent.

A very large number of elite scientists, mathematicians and the Western philosophers are atheists today, more than 80% of them. So, when it comes to their atheism is it their scholarship speaking or their self-indulgence? The need of something necessary to explain away all the contingent realities creates a dilemma for them.

To get out of this quandary three fourth of the top mathematicians believe in a mathematical heaven or in other words Platonism and a belief that mathematical equations, numbers and formulae necessarily exist some how in a Platonic heaven. But, they cannot simply exist except in a real material world on a piece of paper or in a computer or in the consciousness of a real mind. If nothing exists, literally nothing in a real sense, then mathematical equations do not exist. Imaging a total blank a full fledged nothing, then you will be able to convince yourself that mathematical equations, formulae or numbers do not exist.

Before we proceed further, let us know our speaker here a little more:

Alan Harvey Guth (/ɡuːθ/; born February 27, 1947) is an American theoretical physicist and cosmologist who is the Victor Weisskopf Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Along with Alexei Starobinsky and Andrei Linde, he won the 2014 Kavli Prize “for pioneering the theory of cosmic inflation.”[1] Guth’s research focuses on elementary particle theory and how particle theory is applicable to the early universe.

He graduated from MIT in 1968 in physics and stayed to receive a master’s and a doctorate, also in physics.

The Kavli Prize was established in 2005 as a joint venture of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research, and the Kavli Foundation. It honors, supports, and recognizes scientists for outstanding work in the fields of astrophysicsnanoscience and neuroscience. Three prizes are awarded every second year. Each of the three Kavli Prizes consists of a gold medal, a scroll, and a cash award of US$1,000,000. The medal has a diameter of 70 millimetres (2.8 in), a thickness of 5 millimetres (0.20 in), and weighs 311 grams (11.0 oz).[1][2]

The first Kavli Prizes were awarded on 9 September 2008 in Oslo, presented by Haakon, Crown Prince of Norway.

Why there is anything at all is a very important theme to refute atheism or even agnosticism. There is a lot said on this subject and that I present to you below:

Video: Is God Necessary or Who Made God?

Video about Avicenna: Is This The Best Argument For God’s Existence?

The best proof against atheism is to imagine what they profess: What if nothing exists, no God a total blank!

What are abstract objects and do they make God necessary?

Book Review: Don’t Let Mathematicians and Physicists Steal Your God

When and if the physicists and cosmologists someday prove that we can have a universe from nothing then the real proof that they are correct will be to create another universe and the day they do that they will be the creators of the new universe and God the Creator of our present universe. No pun intended.

Only way atheism can win is to find the complete set of laws to create a universe and then those laws go onto producing new universes without any input from humanity or any conscious triggers. Until then I rest my case.
