Dr. Shabir Ally is a Canadian Islamic scholar renowned for his extensive work in interfaith dialogue and Islamic education. Born on May 8, 1953, in Guyana, he moved to Canada with his family in 1978. His academic journey includes a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Laurentian University, focusing on Biblical Literature, and both a Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, specializing in Qur’anic exegesis.
As the president of the Islamic Information & Dawah Centre International in Toronto, Dr. Ally has been instrumental in promoting a contextual understanding of Qur’anic verses, often drawing parallels with expressions found in the Christian Bible. He is also the founder and resident scholar of “Let the Quran Speak,” a television program that fosters a deeper appreciation of Islam and Muslims, broadcast weekly on Canadian national television.
Dr. Ally’s contributions to Islamic literature are notable, with publications addressing topics such as the divinity of Jesus, dietary laws, and scientific themes in the Qur’an. His dedication to interfaith dialogue and education has made him a respected figure in both Muslim and broader communities.
