Early Life and Education
Maria Massi Dakake (often mis-spelled “Dakkak”) was born and raised in a Christian family, originally part of the Roman Catholic tradition bloggingtheology.net. She developed a strong familiarity with Christian scriptures in her youth, regularly attending church services and studying the Bible. In 1990, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Government from Cornell University en.wikipedia.org religiousstudies.gmu.edu. Her academic interests then shifted toward Near Eastern studies and religion, leading her to pursue graduate education at Princeton University. There, she completed a Master’s degree in Near Eastern Studies in 1998, followed by a Ph.D. in 2000 in the same field en.wikipedia.org religiousstudies.gmu.edu. These formative years of study provided her with a deep grounding in Middle Eastern languages, history, and religious thought, setting the stage for her future career as an Islamic studies scholar.
